Scholarships Available

Scholarship applicants will be considered for as many scholarships as possible. Not all scholarships are awarded every year. Awards are dependent on availability of funds. 

A.B. Cobb III Memorial Scholarship – Established by the Cobb Foundation in memory of Burl Cobb, an outstanding graduate in Animal Science, this scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student in animal science.

Aasheim Family Leadership Scholarship – Torlief and Dorothy touched many lives throughout their long and distinguished careers in volunteer community service. Awarded in their memory, this award memorializes the family values of community service and volunteerism.

Ag Economics Opportunity Scholarship - Awarded to students pursuing a degree from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics. 

Ag Economics and Economics Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to deserving agricultural economics students.

Ag Lenders Range School/ Don Ryerson Scholarship – Don Ryerson was a former professor of Range Science Created by the Ag Lenders Range School, it is given to Range Science majors who demonstrate the greatest potential to be productive range scientists.

Agricultural Education Staff Scholarship – Faculty and staff supported scholarship awarded to a promising student pursuing a degree from the Department of Agricultural Education.

Agricultural Global Scholarship – Awarded to students participating in the Agriculture in a Global Context course and international trip. Sponsored by The BMCF Foundation, Cargill Inc., CHS Inc., Leonard and Judy Schock, and the Montana Wheat and Barley Committee.

Andrew & Loretta Schwan Scholarship – Awarded to students in the Pre-veterinary Program or pursuing a degree in the Animal and Range Sciences Department with a preference given to graduates of a Liberty or Hill County high school. 

Angus & Annie McMillan Family Scholarship – Scholarship provided in memory of Donald A. McMillan, an MSU graduate from 1925.

Animal and Range Sciences Scholarship – Awarded to a student in the Animal and Range Sciences Department.

Annin Scholarship – Named after James Annin, a former graduate of the College of Agriculture and awarded to a student studying agriculture. 

Anthony C. Gaffke Scholarship – Named after Anthony C. “Toad” Gaffke, who was from an early Gallatin Valley farming family. This scholarship is awarded to a sophomore, junior, or senior student with preference given to a Gallatin County high school graduate.

Arthur H. & Margaret C. Post Scholarship – Established in memory of Dr. Arthur H. Post, former head of the Plant, Soil, and Environmental Sciences Department, this scholarship is awarded to a student who excels in leadership and scholarship in the department.

August and Mary Sobotka Memorial Agriculture Award – Awarded to students in the College of Agriculture, with preference given to students from Dawson, Richland, McCone, Wibaux, and Prairie Counties.

August Hormay Memorial Range Award – Graduate students in the Animal and Range Sciences Department are eligible for this research based award.

Bair Ranch Foundation Fellowship- Awarded as fellowship for graduate students associated with the Nancy Cameron Chair in Animal and Range Sciences. 

Battle Ridge Ranch Scholarship – Named after a ranch that borders Gallatin and Park Counties; established to assist undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the College of Agriculture.

Bayard L. Taylor Graduate Fellowship – Awarded to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture according to criteria determined by the Dean of the College of Agriculture and the President of Montana State University.

BilAnJo Teacher Education Scholarship – Awarded to students in Agricultural Education Division.

Bill & Anita Jones Agriculture Scholarship – Awarded to students whose primary course of study is agriculture and/or livestock research.

BMCF Agriculture Business Scholarship - Awarded to students enrolled in a program housed within the Agricultural Economics and Economics Department.

BMCF Agriculture Scholarship - Established in 2015, awarded to Montana residents enrolled in a degree-granting curriculum in the College.

Bob Brastrup Memorial/ Montana Wheat & Barley Committee Scholarship – Awarded to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture pursuing careers involved in the research, production or marketing of Montana wheat and/or barley crops.

Bruce B. and Darlene K. Ellis Scholarship - Awarded to students puruing a degree from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Economics. 

Burkenpas Agricultural Education Scholarship – Awarded to a Montana high school graduate pursuing a degree in the Division of Agricultural Education.

Carl Rostad Scholarship – Awarded to a deserving Agricultural Economics student.

Cashman Family Scholarship – Provided by the owners of Cashman Nursery in Bozeman, awarded to a student studying horticulture science.

Charles F. Gumprecht Agricultural Scholarship – Established to provide assistance to graduates of a Helena, Montana high school.

Charles F. Pierson Jr. Memorial Scholarship – Established in the memory of Charles F. Pierson Jr., a rancher from Livingston, MT.

Charlie "Cup" King Scholarship – Awarded to students from Stillwater County who are enrolled in the plant biology curriculum.

Charlie & Wietske Jarrett Scholarship – This scholarship was originally established in 1987 in memory and honor of Charlie Jarrett. Charlie and Wietske Jarrett were graduates of MSU. Mr. Jarrett was a county extension agent in Montana and an agricultural and industrial management agent for the Great Northern Railroad in Great Falls and Seattle. Mrs. Jarrett graduated in home economics. She taught in Townsend for two years and then worked with the Extension Service in Hill County.

Charlotte Rose Hughes Memorial Scholarship - Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Sustainable Foods and Bioenergy Systems. 

CHS Foundation Scholarship – Multiple scholarships provided annually by the CHS Foundation. 

Cliff Montagne LRES Scholarship – Named after a retired professor of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences and awarded to a student in that department.

Clyde & Helen Erskine Fund for Excellence in Agriculture – Provides scholarship assistance to students pursuing a degree in the Department of Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology or the Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences.

College of Agriculture Fellowships - Awarded to graduate students in the College. 

College of Agriculture Honors Scholarship – Awarded to promising high school students interested in the College of Agriculture.

College of Agriculture Student Assistance Grant – Established in 2014 to recognize and support deserving students in the College of Agriculture.

College of Agriculture WIMU Support Scholarship – Awarded to students enrolled in the Washington-Idaho-Montana-Utah Veterinarian Medicine program.

D.P. Fabrick Scholarship – Established in 1988 to provide scholarship assistance to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture.

Dave Kelsey Agriculture Education Scholarship - Awarded to a student in the Division of Agricultural Education. 

David Buschena Memorial Scholarship – Awarded based on the results of the Undergraduate Scholarship Examination or other criteria established by the Agricultural Economics and Economics Department.

Don & Charlotte Kress Scholarship – Awarded to an outstanding freshman in Alpha Zeta or if none, to an outstanding freshman majoring in Animal Science. Dr. Kress is the former Associate Dean of Resident Instruction for the College of Agriculture and Alpha Zeta advisor, and is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences.

Don & Peggy Hart Scholarship - Awarded to Montana residents studying Equine Science. 

Donald & Laurie Becker Plant Sciences Scholarship – Awarded to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree within the department of Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology.

Donaldson Family Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student that graduated from a Montana high school and is involved on campus and in the community.

Dr. Bob Gough Memorial Scholarship – Established in the memory of Dr. Robert Gough. Dr. Bob Gough was the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture and former professor in the Department of Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology.

Dr. Edward L. Moody Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to an Animal Science student with an interest in reproductive physiology.

Dr. Ray and Betty Woodward Scholarship – Dr. Woodward was an internationally known research leader at the USDA Livestock and Range Research Laboratory (LARRL) in Miles City, Montana. The scholarship fund is supported by donations from family, friends, and alumni and awarded to incoming freshman enrolled in the Animal and Range Sciences Department.

Dr. William H. Bohl Agriculture Scholarship - Awarded to Montana high school graduates pursuing a degree in the College of Agriculture. 

Earl and Pauline Webb Memorial Scholarship - Two scholarships awarded annually to students pursuing a degree in the Agricultural Education Division and an additional two awards for students pursuing a degree in the College. 

Ernest L. DeAlton Memorial Scholarship – Provides scholarships to students in Agricultural Education with junior or senior academic standing who plan to teach in Montana.

Farmers Business Network Scholarship - Awarded to student pursuing a degree from the College of Agriculture. 

First Security Bank of Belgrade Scholarship – Awarded to student that is active on campus and throughout the community.

Florence & Monty Moneyhan Scholarship – Established in memory of Harold W. “Monty” and Florence Moneyhan. Awarded to student enrolled in pre-veterinary curriculum.

Forage Crop Scholarship - Awarded to student enrolled in Forages course (AGSC 342). 

Frank & Marie Elliott Homestead Veterinary Scholarship – Awarded to junior or senior microbiology student hoping to attend Veterinary School.

Frank F. Munshower Scholarship – Awarded to a student pursuing a master’s degree in land rehabilitation.

Frank M. Harrington Memorial Scholarship – Established to provide assistance to a junior standing student pursuing a degree in horticulture.

Frank N. Nelson Scholarship – Awarded to freshmen, sophomore, and junior students enrolled in the Pre-Veterinary program based on scholarship and achievement. Also awarded to students enrolled in their first, second, third, or fourth year at an accredited college of veterinary medicine.

Frank R. Beckley Scholarship – Established from the estate of Ruth B. Kirk to be awarded to students enrolled in the Pre-Veterinary Program in the College of Agriculture or attending veterinary school.

Fred S. & Violet E. Willson Scholarship – Dr. Willson was the head of the Animal and Range Sciences Department. This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the department.

Gallatin Beef Producers Scholarship – Awarded to Gallatin Valley residents involved with the Gallatin Beef Producers Association.

Gallatin Cattlewomen Scholarship – Awarded to a student from Gallatin County and active in the one of the College's student organizations. 

Gallatin Gardeners Club Scholarship – Awarded to junior-standing students studying horticulture science and that are active in the campus and local community.

Gallatin Valley Ag Committee Scholarship – Awarded to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture with a preference for students that graduated from a Gallatin County high school.

George Heide Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to students from Eastern Montana with 4-H experience.

George S. Severson Agricultural Scholarship – Awarded to students from Eastern Montana enrolled in the College of Agriculture.

Gilbert Giebink Memorial Scholarship – Established in 1982 in honor of Gilbert Giebink, former professor of Agricultural Economics/Business and former Vice President of Peavey Company in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Gough Family Scholarship – Awarded to a student in Horticulture or Plant Sciences. Dr. Bob Gough was the Associate Dean for Academic Programs in the College of Agriculture and Cheryl Moore-Gough is the former Extension Horticulturist for Montana.

Harry Cockrum Memorial Scholarship – Provides scholarship assistance to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture who graduated from a Montana high school.

Hayden Agriculture Scholarship – Awarded to student enrolled in the College of Agriculture to support current and future success of MSU students.

Herb Skinner Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to student enrolled in the College in memory of Herb Skinner, who graduated from the College in 1940.

Hilger Ranch Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to two students studying animal husbandry or a livestock related field within the Department of Animal and Range Sciences.

Jack Catlin Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to students enrolled in the pre-veterinary program or graduates of the pre-veterinary program entering or currently attending an accredited school of veterinary medicine.

James & Florence Keith Alpha Zeta Scholarships – Awarded to active Alpha Zeta members enrolled as an undergraduate student at MSU or that are currently enrolled in veterinary school.

James & Margie Robertson Memorial Scholarship – Provides assistance to students pursuing a degree in agricultural fields related to livestock and ranching.

James Van Winkle Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student with at least two semesters to complete before graduation.

Jason Killion Memorial Scholarship – Awarded in memory of Jason Killion to a COA undergraduate who is a resident of the state of Montana.

Jim & Betty Drummond Scholarship – Jim Drummond, Professor Emeritus in Animal Science and former superintendent of the Wool Lab, established this scholarship to award a student studying Animal Science.

Joe Somers Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student pursuing a degree in the Agricultural Economics and Economics Department. 

John & Grace Schutter Memorial Agricultural Scholarship – Awarded to plant science students in memory of John & Grace Schutter. 

John H. Stratford Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of John Stratford, this award is intended to help a first-year student from a family farm or ranch background as they study the challenges of modern-day agriculture.

John S. McFarlane Scholarship – Awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Agriculture studying natural resource management.

Kenneth Mortag Scholarship – Created by a long-time rancher from Cascade, Montana who worked for the Montana Livestock PCA, this scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior pursuing a degree in animal science.

Koebel Family Scholarship – Awarded to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture.

Land Resources Stewardship Scholarship – Awarded to a student pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in the Department of Land Resources and Environmental Sciences.

Leo L. Knuti Scholarship – Awarded to a student in the Agricultural Education Division. Leo Knuti was head of the Agricultural Education division from 1950-1966.

Leonard Chvilicek Memorial Scholarship – Provides scholarship assistance to graduate students engaged in wheat research.

LeRoy and Agnes Luft Scholarship - Awarded to an incoming student from Eastern Montana pursuing a degree in the College. 

Lindsay A. Rice Legacy Scholarship- Awarded to students studying Animal Science in memory of Lindsay Rice.

Litzenberger Molecular Plant Breeding Graduate Research Award – Graduate students enrolled in the Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Department are eligible for this award.

Logan and Emily Standley Scholarship - Awarded to students in College with a preference given to those from Missoula or Fergus County. 

Louis Vinke Memorial Scholarship – Originally established to honor the Little International Livestock Show Grand Champion, this scholarship is now awarded to a student pursuing a degree in Animal Science.

Lynn Speakman Agriculture Scholarship - Lynn worked in the Dean's Office for many years and supported students in numerous ways. She started the College of Agriculture Ambassador program and served as a mentor and "mom" to many. The scholarship is awarded to students in the College who are active in College clubs and organizations.

Margaret Gina Sachs Memorial – Awarded in alternate years to students enrolled in the Department of Animal and Range Sciences and in English.

Marion T. Hedegaard Scholarship – Awarded to students enrolled in the Land Resources and Environmental Sciences Department with preference given to students from Eastern Montana.

Mark Jasmaan Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student in the Animal and Range Sciences or Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Department in memory of Mark Jasmaan, a Montana horseman and rancher.

Michael J. McLoughlin Scholarship – This scholarship honors the memory of Michael J. McLoughlin, his leadership, courage, love for the outdoors, and in particular, his love for horses and the beautiful state of Montana.

Montana FFA State Officer Scholarship - Awarded to FFA state officers who choose to enroll in a program housed in the College.

Montana Grains Foundation Scholarship- Awarded to juniors and seniors pursuing a degree in Agriculture Business, Agricultural Education, Plant Science, or Environmental Science.

Montana Stockgrowers Fellowship – Supports graduate students in the Animal and Range Sciences Department.

Montana Wheat & Barley Committee Scholarship – Awarded to students interested in the research and marketing of wheat and barley.

Montana Winter Fair Agriculture Scholarship – Awarded to a Montana high school graduate with community involvement, leadership activities, and academic achievement.

MSU College of Agriculture Scholarship – Awarded to students within the College of Agriculture.

MSU Farmhouse Alumni Scholarship – Awarded to a student of junior status who is pursuing an undergraduate degree from the College.

Myrick Scholarship – Established by Dana Myrick and Kathleen Myrick Huebel in honor of Hobart and Mabel Myrick, homesteaders in Chouteau County, Montana.

Nancy See Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of Nancy See and awarded to pre-veterinary students based primarily on their pre-veterinary club contributions and involvement.

Nett Family Animal and Range Science Scholarship - Awarded to junior and senior students pursuing a degree from the Department of Animal and Range Sciences.

Newman Family & Friends Scholarship – Established to honor Dr. C. Walt Newman and Dr. Rosemary Newman. Awarded to students in the College of Agriculture.

Newman/Abbott Nutrition Undergraduate Scholarship – Established to honor the significant contributions in the field of nutrition of Dr. C. Walt Newman, Emeritus Faculty and Dr. Rosemary Newman, Emeritus faculty.

Nielsen Graduate Research Assistantship - Awarded to a graduate student in the Land Resources and Environmental Sciences Department. 

Northern Great Plains Section/Gerald Sharp Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a junior or senior in range science with membership in the Society of Range Management, showing potential to develop as an effective professional in the field.

Northwest FCS and CoBank Fellowship - Awarded to graduate students affiliated with the Nancy Cameron Endowed Chair in Animal and Range Sciences. 

Oscar O. & Carol H. Thomas Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship is provided by an endowment that was established by family and friends in memory of Dr. Oscar O. Thomas, professor of Animal Science from 1951-1983.

Parent Family Association Scholarship – Proceeds come from the Parent Family Association phone-a-thon to be awarded to students enrolled in the College of Agriculture.

Payne, Ryerson, Taylor Range Scholarship – Named after three retired MSU Faculty members; awarded to a student in range science.

Quarter Circle Lazy SJ Scholarship – Awarded to students in the pre-veterinary science curriculum.

Rafter D. Ranch, Ed and Kalli Deschamps Agriculture Scholarship - Awarded in memory of Ed Deschamps, an MSU College of Agriculture graduate and rancher. 

Ralph Parker Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of Ralph Parker by Montana Farmers Union. Awarded to students interested in cooperative business principles and practice and enrolled in the College of Agriculture taking the Cooperative Curriculum course.

Rene Jones Lock Scholarship – Awarded to students pursuing a degree from the College of Agriculture.

Robert and Edna Duncan Scholarship - Awarded to students pursuing a degree from the College of Agriculture. 

Rice Family Scholarship – Established to honor Gerald "Jerry" Rice and awarded to a student pursuing a degree from the College of Agriculture. 

Robert F. Eslick Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a deserving Plant Science graduate student.

Roy & Menga Huffman Sophomore Award – Awarded to College of Agriculture students in their sophomore year of study.

Samuel C. & Hazel West Litzenberger – Awarded to students pursuing a degree in Plant Science, Biotechnology or Horticulture.

Schutter Family Scholarship – Awarded to a student in a plant science discipline with commendable academic performance.

Sitz Ranch Management Team Scholarship – Recipients must be pursuing a degree in the Livestock Industry option and demonstrate ability and interest in beef cattle production.

Steve Stauber Scholarship – Awarded to students in the Agricultural Economics and Economics Department.

Swingle Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to students housed within the Plant Sciences and Plant Pathology Department.

Ted & Thelma Fosse Scholarship – Awarded to students in the College of Agriculture who are graduates of a Montana high school.

Thayer-Meuli AGR Brotherhood Scholarship – Awarded to worthy undergraduate students, of at least sophomore standing, pursuing a degree from the College of Agriculture who are active members of Alpha Gamma Rho.

The Burris Scholarship – Established to provide assistance to a student enrolled in a program within the Animal and Range Sciences Department.

Thomas D. Campbell Memorial Scholarship – Established in memory of Thomas Campbell to be awarded to students that excel in their academics and are active on campus and in the community.

Van Shelhamer Memorial Scholarship – Dr. Van Shelhamer graduated in 1967 with a degree in agriculture education. He taught agriculture education in Conrad High School for many years and served as a professor of agricultural education at Montana State University. Awarded to student pursuing a degree in Agriculture Education, Broadfield Teaching Option.

Verl M. Thomas Memorial Scholarship – This scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Verl M. Thomas by family and friends and is awarded to a graduate student in Animal and Range Sciences studying sheep or ruminant nutrition.

Vern Dahlstrom Memorial Scholarship – Awarded to a student enrolled in a curriculum within the Agricultural Education Division. Recipient must demonstrate a special interest in teaching agricultural education.

W. Doyle Stocks Scholarship – Awarded to a female student studying agricultural education or animal and range sciences.

Wagner Heritage Scholarship – Awarded to an undergraduate students with a preference for students that graduated from Nashua High School in Nashua, Montana.

Walsh Olsen Fellowship – Awarded to a graduate student that shows creative promise for agriculture industry.

Warp Scholarship – Awarded to students from Sweetgrass County, Montana who are pursuing a degree within the College of Agriculture.

WIMU Student Support Scholarship - Awarded to first year students enrolled in the Washington, Idaho, Montana, Utah (WIMU) Regional Veterinary Medicine Program. 

Winifred-Asbjornson Scholarship – Awarded to graduates of Winifred High School who choose to pursue a degree in the College. 

Woodrow W. Overcast Agriculture Scholarship – Awarded to a Montana resident enrolled in a degree-granting program of the College of Agriculture.

Wyman E. & Ruth M. Nyquist Meritorious Scholarship in Agriculture – Awarded to an incoming freshman in the top 10% of their class or a sophomore or junior undergraduate student with a 3.5 or higher GPA.
