Vehicle Title and Registration Process
To get a new vehicle title, the following items need to be sent to the Dean's Office:
- Application for Certificate of Title for a Motor Vehicle (MV-1)
- Please fill out as shown in below image
- Yellow indicates field to be completed
- Section A should be completed as shown
- If you are unsure, please leave blank!
- Section E needs to be signed and dated by the Dean’s Office
- Please fill out as shown in below image
- Current Certificate ofTitle or Certificate of Origin
- Certificate of Title
- The title must be signed by original owner or Dealership
- If the vehicle is being purchased from the original owner (not a dealership) and the vehicle is less than 9 years old, then the odometer certification needs to be signed and notarized
- The title must be signed by original owner or Dealership
- Certificate of Title
- Copy of the invoice or Bill of Sale
- Odometer Statement (for NEW vehicles – otherwise odometer disclosure should be signed
on current certificate of title).
- This does not apply to trailers
- The dealership should provide at least one copy (yellow and/or pink) of a signed odometer disclosure statement
- Make sure it is signed as transferee. It may be signed by the PI who obtained the vehicle
- If the dealership did not provide a separate odometer statement make sure that a dealer’s agent signs section D of the Application

- The cost is typically about $20
- Insurance Coverage
- All vehicles must have liability coverage (typically about $180 per year)
- Comprehensive/collision is recommended for any vehicles driven off State property (typically 1.5% of the market rate of the vehicle per year)Obtaining Insurance
